This Christmas, I couldn't work out what to give a girl who carries her life on a bicycle, and has people all over the world deciding where she will go and what she will do tomorrow. What do you get her and where do you send it? But I knew I had to do something, because the one thing she doesn't have with her is family, close friends or even familiar faces.
The solution: Start a blog, where everyone can leave special comments about how Indiana has made them smile/ impacted/ touched/ inspired them, and I will forward it to Di as a suprise on Christmas Day.
She will read all the comments, and smile and know that however far away, we're still thinking of her, and that her life, her energy, her travels are enjoyed by many people in many different ways.
Please pass this on to anyone else you feel should be included.
Thanks guys, and most of all wishing you FELIZ NAVIDAD wherever you are in the world.
xx Roz (Indiana's little sister)

ReplyDeleteHey Di! I have come to acccept that I cannot always spend Xmas Day with you and your sisters, but it doesn't change what I feel inside. Over the years, you have made me smile & laugh (& cry)and I am so happy to be your Mum. You write, draw & photograph is such an emotional way that we feel that we are experiencing it with you! Keep the dream alive, knowing that you are always thought of on your journeys. Love Mum & Steve xx
ReplyDeleteDi, since the beginning of this idea you have been passionate and inspired and willing to give anything a go, despite the odds. And every day I am amazed that no matter what happened the day before, you get up, pack your tent up and move on to the next adventure. Biggest smooch and bear hug are being sent airmail to you, hope they get there in time xoxoo Ro

I heard you on Jim Mora show - Radio New Zealand and have subsequently loved watching what you are up to through Facebook. Safe travels, keep enjoying it and have fun. My family is the other side of the world (England), so I know how lonely it can get at this time of the year, but everyone is obviously thinking of you and loves you a lot! Wishing you all the best for the New Year!

Dear Di,
ReplyDeleteit was such a pleasure meeting you earlier this year, when your exciting journey had just begun. I've been following you ever since and was just unexepectedly reminded of you during a ryanair flight (your indiana june logo was next to the boxer chips add in their flight magazine). I love reading about your journey and take an active part in deceiding where you'll go next. The whole thing is such a brilliant idea, and you keep putting a smile on my face - thanks for that!
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a fantastic New Year.
Lots of Love from Kirsten (Ballinskelligs) and little Jake
May you always have an angel by your side Watching out for you in all the things you do Reminding you to keep believing in brighter days Finding ways for your wishes and dreams to come true Giving you hope that is as certain as the sun Giving you the strength of serenity as your guide May you always have love and comfort and courage
And may you always have an angel by your side Someone there to catch you if you fall Encouraging your dreams Inspiring your happiness Holding your hand and helping you through it all In all of our days, our lives are always changing Tears come along as well as smiles Along the roads you travel, may the miles be a thousand times more lovely than lonely May they give you gifts that never, ever end: someone wonderful to love and a dear friend in whom you can confide May you have rainbows after every storm May you have hopes to keep you warm
And may you always have an angel by your side
Di,
ReplyDeleteKeep peddling! Have a very Merry Christmas and New Year safe travels.

Love Gareth & Amy... and the falafel.
Merry Christmas Indiana June. Quite the memorable year for you one would imagine. I am of course referring to the kiwi world cup success and nothing to do with you bicycling exploits.
ReplyDeleteLove your work as always but I'd be lying if I didn't say I am slightly disappointed you aren't sporting a brown fedora hat or carrying a leather whip and to the best of my knowledge there is no Asian boy following you round making generally pissant, annoying remarks.
Still, I could well be wrong regarding the Asian boy. Be well & enjoy the christmas cerveza.
Cheers & Hugs,
Morgs.

From another Orphan who will be away from home over Christmas...
x
Hey Di, aka Indiana!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas and a happy new year to you!
I have really enjoyed voting to send you to destinations that I've never heard of before, and then reading about your adventures on your way and whilst there. Only a creative girl like yourself could've come up with this idea, and I definitely think you will have started a new way to travel trend!
Keep the stories and pics coming and if you're ever back in Aussie, or Melbourne, where I now am, the door will always be open.
Merry Christmas from Kate C
I have only started following your adventures after hearing you interviewed on national radio NZ. Your adventures are inspiring. Have a great Xmas
ReplyDeleteHappy Christmas Di,
ReplyDeleteAs predicted I am living vicariously through you, which means I am now living a double life. Really proud of you; you've done what every creative should- have a dream then make it real. Hope your travels keep on inspiring us both. Have a great Christmas and 2012. And thank you. xxEoghan

Where to next she did not know
As it was up to her followers to decide where she’d go
